An Argentinean patient, who doctors are naming ‘Esperanza Patient’ – which translates to ‘Hope Patient’ – has defeated the odds by becoming the second person to eliminate HIV naturally. Medics confirmed the 30-year-old was the second person to rid her body of the virus naturally, after finding no traces of ‘intact’ or disease-causing virus in her tissues cells. For the eight years that followed her diagnosis, the patient received no medication except for the duration of her pregnancy, to ensure the wellbeing of her newborn.
