Coronavirus is an infectious disease which has been confirmed in more than 800,000 individuals across the world. Cases are continuing to rise in the UK, and the government has urged the public to stay at home, to avoid becoming infected or spreading the virus further.
One patient has explained his first signs of infection, after contracting the virus while on the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
Carl Goldman, from California, USA, didn’t show any symptoms of coronavirus until after he’d left the cruise liner.
More than 700 people onboard the Diamond Princess were later confirmed to have COVID-19; eight of whom eventually died.
Goldman spent more than a week on the cruise before being evacuated on a cargo plane back to the US.

The 67-year-old didn’t have any signs of the condition until his flight home, he revealed.
“Two hours into the flight, not having any symptoms at all, I woke up with a very high fever, well over 103,” Goldman told Business Insider.
His high temperature was the first warning sign of a coronavirus infection.
“There was a doctor on board the plane in a hazmat suit,” he added. “She confirmed I had a fever and placed me in a quarantined area on the plane.”

The includes coughing more than usual for longer than a one hour period, or having at least three coughing episodes every 24 hours.

Goldman explained that his fever was different from anything he’d experienced before.
The high temperature may lead to sweating buckets, but on this occasion, it had the opposite effect.
“Even with the high fever, I usually get chills and sweats,” he said. “I didn’t have that either.”
“It’s a different sickness. Unlike a cold or flu, I did not have any stuffiness in my nose, no sore throat, no headache. “Those are things I usually get with a cold.”
