Actor and director Kevin Smith has dropped 25 pounds in the last month, according to a post he shared on Twitter this weekend. Smith, 50, shared a selfie to mark the milestone, and explained how he found motivation in a cruel anonymous online comment about his weight from somebody who thought it was “Time to go back to the hockey jerseys”.
“At first I was like ‘fuck you.’ Now I’m like ‘thank you.'” He wrote in his original tweet a month ago. “You’re right, Daniel K. I’ve got pandemic pounds to lose. I just gotta keep trying.”
“A month later, I’m down 25 pounds,” he said in the update today. “And this morning, I just hit my goal weight for CLERKS III! Thanks, Daniel K! See, Kids – critical comments can be turned into positives! We start shooting August 2, so there’s another 2 pounds or so that’ll drop. I’m now back to Reboot weight!”
Smith has been on a weight loss journey for the last couple of years, after he suffered a serious heart attack in 2018 which very nearly killed him. The experience caused him to make some big changes to his lifestyle, including cutting meat products and sugar from his diet, and walking for at least an hour every day with his dog Shecky.
“I ate the way I wanted to for 47 years; I will try the way I’m supposed to for one year and see what happens,” he told Men’s Health in 2019, after hitting his first goal and losing 50 pounds in just six months (an achievement which left him with “tons” more energy). And, anonymous trolls or not, it looks like he’s kept that momentum going.
