Paul Sinha is a much-loved quiz star on ITV’s The Chase, a show where contestants put their quizzing hats on for the chance to beat one of the Chasers for cash and prestige. The show’s latest spin-off airing tonight – Beat the Chasers – sees contestants go head-to-head with not just one, but all five Chasers. There should be six chasers but sadly Paul will not be taking part due to health issues that cropped up during the filming of the show.
Ahead of the show being aired, Paul gave his fans the sad news that he would not be appearing on the series due to falling ill at the time.
Speaking to Express.co.uk ahead of the return of the new series, fellow Chaser Anne Hegerty, 62, gave an update about her co-star’s health.
She said: “He wasn’t very well, he is a lot better now and he is looking forward to getting back to work.
“He was happy to get back to work as soon as possible, but the specialist was saying, ‘No you do need a few weeks off’.”
The quizmaster lamented his absence: “It didn’t feel quite right without Paul, it doesn’t feel right if any of us are missing.
“But, we always intended to film with all six chasers and when one of us suddenly couldn’t, they rebuilt the set and repositioned some of the lights.
“It’s a pity, but he will be back for future series.”
The Governess star added that Paul’s absence prompted the Chasers to “step up” as a team.

Anne went on to say that she and her fellow quizzers were looking forward to having him back on the panel.
At the time, Paul, best known as The Sinnerman, took to Twitter to explain his absence.
He wrote: “New episodes of Beat the Chasers are on their way.
“Unfortunately, I wasn’t well for the recordings and couldn’t join in this time around. I’m feeling much better now. X.”
It is not known what the quizzer’s illness was and whether or not it was related to his Parkinson’s disease, which he was diagnosed with in 2019.
When he went public with his diagnosis he vowed to “fight it with every breath I have”.
Writing in a post on his blog, Paul said: “In the time since my Parkinson’s started, I have been ludicrously busy, and fully intend to keep Chasing, keep writing and performing comedy, keep quizzing and keep being hopeless at Tasks.”
He continued: “Dancing on Ice is, I suspect, out of the question. A lot of people have asked, ‘What can I do to help?’ The answer is to treat me exactly the same as before.”
What is Parkinson’s disease?
Parkinson’s disease is a condition in which parts of the brain become progressively damaged over many years.
According to the NHS, the three main symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are:
- Involuntary shaking of particular parts of the body (tremor)
- Slow movement
- Stiff and inflexible muscles.
A person with Parkinson’s disease can also experience a wide range of other physical and psychological symptoms.
As the NHS explains, these can include depression and anxiety and loss of sense of smell (anosmia).
The NHS says: “See a GP if you’re concerned that you may have symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.”
